Death of AT&T Unlimited Wireless Data

Yeah buddy, you read that title right. AT&T is going anti unlimited wireless data plans. I just read a truly disturbing article from Matt Buchanan that put a damper on my day. Just when I get comfortable with tethering capabilities I find out we’re now going to be charged for data overages. Seriously? So now that we’re phasing out of the “oh i can’t talk because I don’t have any minutes” days, we run into the same thing with data. “Oh i can’t check my email because i’m low on data”. Now there is going to be a “Data Plus” option that will allow you to pay $15 for 200MB of data, and if you run out, you can pay another $15 for 200MB (see where this is going?). You can get a “Data Pro” plan for $25 that gives you 2GB of data. Wanna know what makes things better (for AT&T)? If you use the 2GB for tethering, then you have to pay an additional $20. That’s just miserable, not only do we have to deal with dropped calls every two seconds, but now we’re being limited on data.

On a good note, people who currently have unlimited plans, and lock themselves in after June 7th will continue to have their unlimited plans. People who are considering singing up, you need to sign up before the June 7th or that’s the end of that. What’s next AT&T? Are you going to publicly announce to all the children there is no such thing as Santa Clause??

I’m sure there are people out there who would die for AT&T and are probably muttering “If you don’t like AT&T why don’t you just leave?” and my answer to that is “shut up, I’m venting!”

More of Matt’s article can be read by clicking here.

The image is below is just describing how I feel right now. Who knows, I’ll probably feel better in the morning… *inserting my mean face*

Dropbox – 2GB Of Free Online Storage

Top of the morning to you all on this beautiful Tuesday. You know I like to keep my folks in the loop with things and yesterday I ran across the Dropbox website. To sum it up, it’s an online thumb drive that will allow you 2GB of free storage. You can get more if you want to pay, but 2GB is plenty space for me, especially since all I’m doing is sending music, images, and a bunch of nerdy program related pdf files. Another thing I like is that for every person you refer, both parties get an additional 250MB of space (you can end up getting up to 8GB of free online disk storage. You can read more about it and get an extra 250MB of storage by clicking here.

TweetDeck Desktop Application

Good morning everyone, I hope this Friday finds everyone in great spirits. The sun has so blessed us this morning and peaked its little face through the clouds. Hopefully he can stay around for a bit. This week, I’ve tried something new. Even though I’m a programmer, I’m a little slow when it comes to keeping up with my social media. Try envisioning a Palm Tree standing right in the middle of the 5 freeway. All the cars breeze back and forth and the tree just sits in the same spot. Well, that tree is me, and all the cars passing by represent the various communications that cross me on a daily basis. Needless to say, I miss a lot of things. By the time I check my phone in the afternoon, a world of updates has just passed me by. I’ve been using TweetDeck on my iPhone as a way to post my status updates to Facebook and Twitter. It’s an awesome application for your phone, but who wants to scroll through their phone while trying to work right?? Sure I can pull up the applications on my browser, but nothing screams “I’m not actually working right now” like the Facebook or Twitter websites. You can spot that branding from across the room.

Like I mentioned above, I’ve decided to try something new, the TweetDeck Desktop Application is a great development. It’s an application ran from your desktop that allows you to quickly post updates to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and Linked In. I only use it for Twitter and FB, that way I can stay connected easier with my peeps. This week I’ve been more up to date on the social networking side of things then I ever have before primarily because of the ease and speed of this desktop application. It takes me no time at all to check out updates (posting and replying). The ability to preview messages as they come in without pulling up the TweetDeck window is worth mentioning as well. Overall, it’s definitely worth trying out. I could go over all the features of the app, but why reinvent the wheel? Go to the website and check it out for yourself.

Introducing JimmysCloset.com

Good morning all, today we’ll continue our fashion week with a site I’ve had for a couple of years, it’s called JimmysCloset and I originally set it up to demonstrate eCommerce development capabilities to some of my clients. I have a pretty interesting story as I was setting it up. I took a picture of a pair of Air Force Ones that I had in my closet because I wanted to put them on the website to do a little testing. I forgot to take them down (cause I assumed no one would hit the site) and to my surprise, someone actually bought my shoes (how cool is that?). I ended up having to buy a pair of Air Force Ones so that I could ship them out. After that incident I figured I had something going with the site.

A few months later, I bought some gear from my boys over at IM King. a clothing company located out here in Santa Ana which is housed in Orange County Southern California. Before each Magic show, they have a huge warehouse sale and I was fortunate enough to get some inventory from them for the site. I never actually did any advertising for the website, but still managed to sell a few products. So now ladies and gentlemen, without further “to do” I’d like to re-introduce the website and invite you all to come on by and check it out. Feel free to pick something up while you’re there.

Here’s a screen capture of the website.

Is there anyone still using Internet Explorer?

Being in the web industry, a majority of time is put into testing. Testing on multiple platforms, browsers, screen resolutions etc. I don’t think I’ve received more complaints/problems with any browser more than Internet Explorer. I thought it was just me being an IE hater for the longest time. Since I’m a Mac guy, I’m thankful that I don’t have many run ins with IE but now I’m reading about these browser security flaws. Germany has already sent out an advisory warning their people to use a different browser (in which Microsoft claimed they over reacted). Now I’m reading that France is following suit with Germany and are warning against Internet Explorer use as well. Last week, Microsoft announced that IE was to blame on the recent attack by hackers who accessed email accounts of human rights activists in China. Microsoft claimed the average user was not at risk but, why wait to see if that’s true. If anyone is interested in getting set up with a new browser. Firefox and Google Chrome are some good places to start looking. If you don’t know what you’re doing, make sure you do a little research before you start installing web browsers on your computer.
