My last post, I rambled on about the pros and cons of jailbreaking your iPhone. Now that you’ve had a day to reflect on your digital morals, it’s now time to make the move to more genius. If you’re remotely interested in “learning” the procedures, keep reading.

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes
  2. Back your phone up. Last thing you wanna do is mess something up and not have anything to resort back to.
  3. Find a good Jailbreak program. One that I’ve been seeing repeatedly on forums and in blogs can be found by going to: BlackRain
  4. Click and download your desired OS (Mac or PC)
  5. Restart your computer
  6. Hook your iPhone up to your computer and launch the BlackRa1n program you’re see an icon similar to the one below:
    Make it Rain
  7. Your phone will boot in recovery mode

  8. After a couple of seconds, you’ll see what appears to be a Da Vinci painting (I believe that’s a picture of GeoHot)
  9. Donate some cash and wait for your device to reboot

That whole process shouldn’t take you longer then a minute. Once you have all that done the real fun begins. When your phone reboots, you’ll have the blackra1n logo on your phone

Once clicked, you’ll be given a choice of three applications to install. Out of the three, I’ve read that Cydia is the best. It’s a little top heavy in terms of file size, but it does the trick. Once your app is installed, you can remove the blackra1n icon, you won’t need it anymore.

From there, just experiment, do some research, like I said, it’s like having a new phone again. Here is a good place to start your research: http://www.iphoneuserguide.com/apple/2009/02/07/iphone3g/top-10-essential-cydia-apps/
